Okay to touch on a few topics. I think that Spad has the right idea with basing weapons damages on a percentage system. We can fiddle with them too so if for example 2% lasers seems too high we can switch to let like .5% or what not. Turbo boost would be a good idea, the thing I have in mind is that this would be used more for evasion that an attack. Lets say you have low health and you know an enemy is on your tail, you use it to get out of his range and your safe, the reason this wouldn't affect nitro ram is because this one would not have a lock on mechanism. This would strictly be for evasion or other combos people would find.
As for limiting the unique weapons and primary weapons, I have considered this but I haven't decided on anything for sure but to give you an example Clone:
Cloak: Lasts 45 seconds Barrier: Lasts 15 seconds Temporary Flight: Lasts 30 seconds Turbo: 33% faster for 8 seconds
etc. Again these aren't final but just examples of how I think they should be limited.

i'm not sure if they were purely random examples or not, but i think those times are possibly too long for basically all of the examples maybe a 3-4 second turbo boost, 15 second cloak, 10 second flight etc.. in a game, 45 seconds of being invisible is a LONG time, i would suggest if we want to keep some sort of skill in the game, we make it so you dont get all day to make your move whilst cloaked. the cloak would cloak you on the radar too right?

45 sec. for cloak, thats just crazy. current nano last 7-8 seconds. 15 sec. would be max in my opinion

After reading what you guys said about the turbo boost, it sounds good. Since it's similar to nitro ram, maybe it should be called nitro boost.
Percentages sounds good.
I agree about limiting the time on unique and primary weapons, but i was talking about limiting the number of uses. Like making someone wait before using the weapon again. I was talking about making it a bar or percent, or both. When it's up to full power, then they can fire. Actually i was thinking about something that looks a little more creative than a bar. It's hard to describe, but maybe i can make you an image.
I just read spad's post and i agree if those were real times, they would be too long. I know you said it's just an example though. The cloak is way too long, not sure about flight. Turbo might be a little too high and the % should probably just be a nice round number, like 30. The barrier sounds about right.
I think the cloaking would cloak you on radar too because if it didn't, then it wouldn't be that useful.

yeah limit number of uses with a 'recharge' feature. recharge speed could vary across the different runners too?

Varying the recharge speed might be a good idea.

to change the focus a bit...a game is only as good as the online play system that supports it. i have many years experience with case's ladder and other league's, i've held almost every support & admin position in case's over the last 7 or 8 years. whatever form dd2 takes, it has to have a very strong league system, automatic match reporting, lots of different stats, tournaments etc.. with my experience, i think i can offer alot to this side of things.

Yeah, sounds like it. I think you'd be very helpful in that department. This subject is kind of related to something i was talking to stunner about on kali yesterday.
I was thinking about suggesting something new for multiplayer, but i have no idea if it's a good idea or not.
There's this game called Total Annihilation, a futuristic strategy game, that used to have it's own free online service, kind of like battle.net. It had this thing on there called galactic wars. Players would choose one of 2 sides and when they played games, a victory would count for their side. There was a map of the galaxy and it would show who controlled a planet.
I was thinking of an interesting idea where we could add something similar to dd2, except customized to fit in with this game.
You could have multiple prison gangs to choose from. You join one, then when you play, it counts towards that gangs status. If a prison gang wins a certain number of victories, or something like that, then they take over the prison on the map and maybe get some kind of reward. This would probably add to the replayability of the game.
This would just be a new type of game to choose from though, people wouldnt even have to join a side if they didn't want to play in this mode. If you don't play a game in this mode, then it's just a regular game. We could either have pre-made sides to choose from or make it more like player made gangs (clans). I think gangs would be better.
We would probably need to set up our own server(s) if we're gonna have features like that though, unless we can use someone else's server. All we would need is a place to keep a list of games and info on the gangs, etc., not for the actual game hosting.

yeah this sounds alot like 'clans', most games have them. you join one, then have 'clan wars' against other clans. in worms2, each clan had a website..and they'd list their clan wars, whether it was a victory or defeat. not everyone joined a clan, but most did. adding something like this, but making it official..would definitely add playability, increase competition, and improve the community.

Yeah, i know most games have clans, but i was thinking about it being more like the style of the game i was talking about. Some games aren't that interesting when it comes to clans. I just thought Total Annihilation had a unique system. On there you didn't get to make up your own side though.

i just had a thought, 'wall crawl' used to be a glitch, but why not let it be reborn as a rare weapon in dd2?

ohh right, so we create the groups, and players join them. so you could have the..
murderers rapists pedafiles frauds thieves politicians unfairly convicted
and yeah, we have some sort of 'prison maps' that they fight for territory within? i like it. however, i would like to see people with the ability to create their own groups. maybe we could simply set a limit on how many are allowed to exist at any one time. hopefully alot of people can give feedback on this!

Yea those were random examples. Just to give you guys an idea of what I was pondering. I am thinking it should cloak on your radar but if you get close enough you migth see it pop up on radar so it isn't too overpowered.
Something I thought of after reading this was like a kill reward system for unique weapons.
Example: After 10 kills you get to use cloaking device again.
Very good point Spad. I have had experience with cases ladder and MyLeague as well. I am sure with out combine knowledge we can really get a good thing set up. One thing I would love to see more of are Tourney Directors, we can go further into detail about this later though.
Yea I played TA before but I am not familiar with this. I like the idea of prison gangs which you could belong to. This would be an awesome thing and I am sure we could make it a persistant world so that even when your offline your gang could lose control of the sector. Deffiently something we should go into further detail about.
Servers will be up. I would be sure to have 1 for regular play and atleast 1 for this prison gang idea you have. Dell has some very nice ones for cheap that IMO would easily handle the load of DDers plus the game itself. I will keep an eye out for bargains but I won't be purchasing any until the game is ready for release or close to it.
Unfortunately I disagree with this. Wall crawling is what made a lot of people despise me in the game, I think I probably used this more than anyone else. I will admit it was fun and easy but it is a very cheap way since you can only be killed by shocks and affected by disruptors.
R.I.P wall crawling.
I am sure we could build up some massive levels that are beyond huge for something like this. I could even add in teleport zones and stuff to get to a section of the prison quicker. But from what I understand from your post would mean gigantic levels and not to mention more than 12 people per game, which we could easily do we just need to think of more runners.
Okay guys, I drew up a model of what I was thinking but unfortunately the scanner isn't work. Damn it! I will try to get it up as soon as I can but if not I will make an attempt at Paint hah.

That would probably be good.
This doesn't sound like a good idea to me, unless you have some other details. It is an interesting one, but it seems like it would take the fun out of the game for players who go up against players who are better than them. Then you might hardly ever get to use certain weapons, while the other player gets to use his often. It would help shift the game even more in the skilled player's favor.
Also, the example number would be too high. I know it's just an example, but i would suggest no more than a few, probably every 2 or 3.
Actually, what i was talking about was on a smaller scale than that. When people play in the game type i was talking about, they play a regular game, on a regular level or maybe we could make special ones, but it just counts towards a victory for their side. The victory is displayed on a world map. Also, the entire prison gang wouldn't be involved in each match, just up to 6 for each side, since we were gonna make it 12 players. It would be persistant though.
The reason i wasn't suggesting something more than this is because of lag and more work. If you want to make it on a larger scale, i wouldn't necessarily disagree though. I was thinking it would be nice if it was more interesting. I do like some of what you're saying and it might be similar to things i'd considered. Teleport might be nice on some large levels.
I do think the levels for this game should be less of a maze, simple enough to be fun, but complex enough to be interesting. We need plenty of levels of varying sizes.
Btw, I've been working a little on a model of that irobot motorcyle we were talking about, just to use as an example. It's not that much to look at yet though.

I look forward to seeing that model as soon as you're finished. I think I will be putting the idea we talked about in the previous posts on the to-do list. I really do like it and think we can work out the major/minor problems, right now all I can think of is calling it "Gang Wars" let me know if you think of better.
I will probably be getting a Mactop (PowerBook) soon so I can practice and work on some of the graphics. I am thinking of completely remodelling everything basically. I would like new skins for all weapons/runners and other items. So, I have been thinking of a new skin for the Skorch Missile to start.
I am hoping to get into contact with some former DD players soon to get them here and on these forums. I was wondering if we could make a separate DDII forum section so that we could have forums like Development/Artwork/Fan Art and stuff like that? Also can I get Admin/Moderator rights? Which ever works for me as long as I can sticky/move threads that are dealing with ProjectPrisoner.
