Hey guys. It's good to hear from you all. I'm here to announce that I will be releasing the original DD remake project, including source code, to the community. First, you can download a test build of the game at this link - www.angelfire.com/pro/clone256/index.htmlYou must run the master server before you can host a game. Games can only be played locally with this test build. I will be releasing all the project files soon. I am still interested in developing a DD remake. If you would like me to continue working on this one or for me to join a new one let me know. This DD remake was using Unity - unity3d.com/5 If I work on this one, it will be as a completely open project. Everything will be released to the community as it's added/updated. If a new project is started, I would suggest Unity. It's the best development tool I've used and has a lot of build targets: pc, mac, linux, web, game consoles (separate license), and oculus rift.

This is great news for your project! You are the first to finish a working alpha build to test and play with. I hope some of the folks over at the Facebook community page for DD will get excited and join in to help out a little. Anyway I'll go on and try to work with the level editor Wings3D to help out where i can. This is fantastic news man

I know it's been a lot of years, so I'm not sure if anyone remembers me.
In any case, Clone, if you're still around, and interested in developing a remake of DeathDrome, I know my way around Unity relatively well these days. I'd also be open to doing something directly with DirectX or OpenGL, if we wanted to go that route (if you want to shake the Unity look and feel, I mean) but I agree that Unity is an excellent platform for getting something up, running, and together relatively quickly. I think it would work well in the scope of a game like DD, anyways.

Hey Aeon, I apologize for the late response, and I'm very interested in working with you and the others. What you said about unity reflects my opinion. I'm happy to announce that I've released the old unity dd remake project files to the dd community. You can download the zip files at this link: www.angelfire.com/pro/clone256/index.htmlIt uses Unity's networking for multiplayer games, but I've had some difficulty getting it to connect even after trying their advice. I've considered switching the networking portion to smartfoxserver. Keep in mind that I don't consider myself anything more than an intermediate level programmer and that I kind of skipped tutorials in Unity. I just looked at a couple of things made by others and then sort of figured most of it out as I went along. I'm certain there are better ways to do some of it. Anyway, spread the word people! And, let me know what you think. Hopefully, I've managed to capture enough of the look and feel of the original dd so far. The test level, the starting room from alcatraz ii, needs a couple of textures and doors. Lighting might need to be adjusted. The texture on the wall is incomplete. Other than that, the room is complete. I would be very interested in working on a remake of the game, and in using oculus, whether it's by continuing the original project or starting a new one in unity and maybe using portions of the old one.

I would very much like to know how to even launch this? I downloaded it but it just has a bunch of files that I am not familiar with how to use. I am somewhat computer savvy so don't feel like you have to dumb it down too much.
